Throughout the novel Holden has a difficult time connecting with hoi polloi around him but darksome in his heart he is zest for love and companionship. Sunny, the prostitute, was another commence for female companionship, be she didnt take Holden the idealized Jane he is seeking. Jane gave him emotional sa tisfaction. Wheres Sunny gives him a superficial, sexual, devoid of emotion. Holdens loneliness compels him to come in contact with people alike Sunny. Then Holden tries again with a fancy with a young lady named Sally.

His mood swings throughout their date shows that he is troubled and his heroic need for love is a counterbalanced by his softness to deal with the real world.
